The Latin phrase "cogito ergo sum" can be defined as a philosophical proposition by Rene Descartes. A variant of this quote is "I think therefore I exist."

Rene Descartes has been dubbed the "Father of Modern Philosophy" and the "Father of Modern Mathematics." Descartes is also known as Cartesius as the Latinized form of his name is Renatus Cartesius.

The attempt by Rene Descartes to apply the method of doubt to the existence of himself generated the proof of his famous saying, "Cogito ergo sum" (I think, therefore I am).
